LABORATORY
The Bioindustrial Services laboratory has HPLC, GC-MS and AA unit and analyses products across all industries for minerals, heavy metals, residues, vitamins, antibiotics, hormones, antioxidants and preservatives.
Only validated methods are used from USP, EUP to BP. Where appropriate AOAC and ISO methods are used.
A comprehensive sample preparation area is incorporated within the chemistry laboratory.
STABILITY LABORATORY
There are four stability chambers in the stability laboratory ranging in temperature from 25°C to 52°C at 65% RH.
MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Microbiological analysis is the use of biological, biochemical, molecular or chemical methods for the detection, identification or enumeration of microorganisms in a material (eg food, drink, environmental or clinical sample). It is often applied to disease causing and spoilage microorganisms.
End-product testing remains a vital part of any food manufacturing control strategy. In products in which microorganisms can survive and grow, routine microbiological analysis is important to confirm that manufacturing control mechanisms are effective. It is also necessary for the checking of raw material quality (eg to confirm that they are within specification), or for investigating customer complaints.
The laboratory has full capability for the analysis of microbes in food, feed, pharmaceutical and cosmetic matrices. Water microbiology as well as environmental hygiene and microbiological surveys in production facilities is performed in all types of environments.
In addition, short in-house courses are provided to production personnel in areas of personnel and environmental hygiene.
Building on a broad portfolio of advanced fluorescence tools, we offer several reagents specifically for microbiology research. These dyes and kits are valuable tools for detecting and identifying microbes in the environment, indicating metabolic activity and assisting with the determination of structural composition and integrity. Many of these products are adaptable for various analytical platforms, including flow cytometry, microplates, and fluorescence-based microscopy.

NUTRITIONAL LABORATORY
Nutritional analysis is performed on food and feed and raw materials ranging from rice flour, maize and bran to blood meal and oil products.
Methods are AOAC and ISO validated.
Oxidation analysis is performed for shelf life stability studies.
CANNABIS PRODUCTS &
PHARMACEUTICALS
The laboratory analyses water from all sources, including underground, ground, municipal, production, bottled water, as well as effluent water sources.
Included with the SABS 241 specification, microbiological analysis, Total Plate Count, Coliforms and Escherichia coli (E. coli) is included.
- In cases of effluent water, heavy metals are analysed.
- In cases of ground water, minerals and microscopy are analysed. Borehole water is analysed for microbiological purity.
- Bottled water is analysed for minerals and any added supplements such as vitamins.
